combination oral antidiabetic medication used alongside diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). It combines two medications with complementary mechanisms of action to target different pathophysiological defects in type 2 diabetes: Sitagliptin (50mg): A dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. It works by blocking the DPP-4 enzyme, which prolongs the action of active incretin hormones (like GLP-1). This stimulates insulin release and suppresses glucagon secretion in a strictly glucose-dependent manner. Metformin (500mg): A biguanide. It lowers blood glucose primarily by decreasing hepatic (liver) glucose production, reducing intestinal absorption of glucose, and improving peripheral tissue sensitivity to insulin.
