Zevlin-E is the combination oral medication used to improve glycemic control in adults with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). It combines two distinct but complementary mechanisms of action to lower blood glucose levels more effectively than either drug alone, without increasing the burden of taking multiple pills. This formulation tackles hyperglycemia through two completely independent pathways: * *Empagliflozin 25 mg (SGLT2 Inhibitor):* Works in the kidneys. It blocks the sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2), preventing the kidneys from reabsorbing filtered glucose back into the bloodstream. Instead, the excess glucose is excreted through the urine (glucosuria). The 25 mg dose is the maximum standard therapeutic dose for glycemic control. * *Linagliptin 5 mg (DPP-4 Inhibitor):* Works in the gut and pancreas. It blocks the DPP-4 enzyme, which usually breaks down incretin hormones (like GLP-1). By keeping incretins active longer, linagliptin stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin when blood sugar is high and reduces the secretion of glucagon (which stops the liver from making excess glucose).
